The All-Choreography All-Cookie CONTEST

Thanks everyone for working so hard on the team cookie contest. Especially congrats to the winners from last week:

Team
684 points: Rancher YM / Rancher YW / Raching Core

Individual
141 points: Mark Bunes (Ranching YM)
130 points: Sabrina Guerra (Ribbon)
124 points: Evan Melchin (Ranching Core)

New Contest: This week we are going to do only individual prizes, and it will be based entirely on how many times you watch the Old Joe Clark group choreography video, which is 2 minutes long.

In addition to watching on YouTube, the Old Joe Clark Group Video can now be downloaded from the online Google Drive folder. This way, you can load it onto your device and watch it when you don't have an internet connection.

Scoring: 1 point every time you watch the group video. No maximum.
Prizes: Several. Maybe 5, maybe 20. We'll see.

Here are the Old Joe Clark videos:

You earn 1 point for your team every time you watch the group video.

We have reserved the West Stake Center for the evening of Friday October 12 to rehearse mainly in the parking lot. The rehearsal will have to start a bit earlier than normal to give us some more daylight, and then we will possibly transition indoors at 6:00 pm for the Nativity portion. We anticipate having a social activity in the Stake Center afterwards just for fun -- more details on that later.

Please make sure you come at least 10 minutes before you are scheduled to rehearse.

Note that most of the youth will not need to arrive until 4:40 pm, when we get ready for the first scene that involves everyone at 4:50. Those youth in the Chinese Heritage scene (Dragons, Percussion, Gymnasts, Fans, Ribbons) will be the first to rehearse, and should be ready to go at 4:00 pm. We realize that many of the leaders who are helping with the Chinese Heritage scene may not be available so early, but we ask you to do what you can to be there or send someone in your place who has been to the rehearsals.

Everyone will need to be in their Cowboy/Farmer costumes for the group number at 4:50 pm. This will be a good chance for costume reps to see everyone in their western costumes and make adjustments. We would like the youth to practice changing in and out of their ranching costumes and hanging them up in an organized fashion, so please bring casual clothes to change into. If you have a simple garment bag, you should bring that to hang your costume in (with your name tagged on it).

Those in the Nativity scene will need to change from their western costumes into their Nativity costumes for their portion of the rehearsal in the gym.

We will not have all the girl costumes for the Chinese Heritage scene until the Oct 17 Rehearsal, so the Fan and Ribbon dancers do not need to worry about their costumes for Oct 12.

Swag swag swag, on you

Letter to Cast & Families

Dear West Stake Youth and Parents,

We are so excited to be given the opportunity to work with you in preparing the Calgary Temple Youth Celebration to be held on Saturday, October 27th in the Corral on the Stampede grounds.  As you know, we have now had a Kick-off Fireside and 3 rehearsals.  We are adapting and fine-tuning each rehearsal to best meet your needs and to get the most out of the time we have together in preparation for this wonderful event.  Each youth will have several opportunities to be on stage during the celebration.  We wanted to get a letter out to all families to be sure that everyone has a better understanding of what their participation will be.

ALL YOUTH in our stake will participate in the following scenes:
Howdy (White-Hatting ceremony)
"The Light of the Temple" by Loralee Laycock - ALL Sing
Introduction
"The Light on the Hill" by Terry Wasden - ALL Sing

Ranching Scene
"The Farmer and the Cowman" by Rodgers and Hammerstein - ALL Sing & Dance
"Old Joe Clark" - ALL Sing a portion & Dance

Hockey - 6 YM have been cast to rollerblade and all others will be spectators surrounding the playing surface and cheering
"The Good Old Hockey Game" by Tom Connors - ALL Sing and Act
Temple Announcement Scene
Light Up Finale
"Arise and Shine" by Andrew Hawryluk - ALL Sing

As you can see ALL youth in our stake will have plenty of participation time in the celebration.  You can also see that there are 5 full songs to be prepared and memorized by every youth in the stake.  All youth will also have some dancing and acting to do in the Ranching Scene and Hockey Scene.

In addition to these scenes, some youth have been cast in an additional scene.  You may have heard about these as the Nativity Scene & the Chinese Heritage Scene (which includes: Ribbon Dancers, Fan Dancers, Dragon & Lion, Gymnasts and Percussionists).  The youth cast for one of these scenes are performing in that particular scene IN ADDITION to the "All Youth" Scenes listed above.  Thus, these youth will need to be in attendance at the "All Youth" rehearsals times as well as those specified for their additional scene.

Just 39 days and 5 (stake) + 2 (regional) rehearsals to performance time!  We won't be able to do it unless you put some time in at home with the audio and video recordings.  Be sure to take part in the "Listen/Watch" contest!

We look forward to working together to make this celebration an exciting and inspirational presentation which illustrates our love for the Lord and our gratitude for the incredible blessing it is to have a House of the Lord in Calgary!

* NEW ITEMS JUST ADDED:
- Drummer will join Dragon Group in the gym to rehearse Dragon Dance segment for an hour.
- Lion Group will be practicing their segment in the triple room by the library for an hour.
- Hockey Group will meet for 10 minutes in the chapel with Bro Kunn to discuss equipment and practicing.

Attendance will be taken at the beginning of Ranch Dancing Segment. We will designate a corner of the gym for each group to gather and take role before they are assigned to their groups of 12 to practice the dance. Essentially, the first 6 boys on the role will be paired with the first 6 girls on the role, so please use attendance as a means to organize your groups of 12, which will stay together through to the performance. For larger groups (like Nativity, Ranching), we will have boys in one corner and girls in another corner for attendance.
